Dummy Interface Configuration

Dummy interfaces are virtual network interfaces that act like loopback interfaces but can be created dynamically. They are useful for testing, creating placeholder IPs, or providing additional IP addresses without requiring physical hardware.

Dummy Interface Best Practices

  1. Use /32 Netmask for Host Routes

    • Dummy interfaces typically use /32 (255.255.255.255) for IPv4
    • This creates a host route, not a network route

Best Practices

  1. Loopback Interface: Always include loopback configuration:
